Thunderbird randomly fails to recognise passwords of accounts

more options

Currently running ver 45.6.0 and everything has been working okay, I have made no changes to e mail addresses/passwords recently. However when I run "get messages" Thunderbird hangs on first account, tells me password is incorrect. I cancel and it then scans the remaining two accounts no problem, Next time I do the request, the first account is okay but it hangs on the second account. Next time the third account, then back to the start.

I've deleted saved passwords etc and reinstalled them but didn't have any edffect - Any ideas?

Hi Powered the machine up again to try the new profile and hey everything works again as it should, so going to quit while I'm ahead! Thanks for the help - I'll hold the new profile in the back pocket if it fails again so for now we'll class it as solved ! Thanks again

First: Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled".

If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

If this is not the issue, then please post your Troubleshooting Information from Thunderbird: Thunderbird menu: Help: Troubleshooting Information Click the "Copy text to clipboard" button. Paste (Ctrl-V), the text into your response here.

The next thing to test:

Restart the operating system in Safe Mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP

In Windows Safe Mode with Networking, see if Thunderbird still does this.

Unfortunately still experiencing the same problem

Next thing I suggest is to Create a new profile in Thunderbird for testing and see if the same behavior happens in the new profile.
