Read receipt for email from MS Mail on Vista and other MS systems unecessarily shows message source as plain text after receipt message
When email from MS Mail Vista system to my Thunderbird Windows 10 system requesting read receipt is given one, the receipt message is followed by what looks like the message source as plain text - annoying gobbledy gook for most ordinary email users. Is this how it is meant to work or have I missed a setting somewhere?

The "annoying gobbledy gook" is the headers of the e-mail that requested the Return Receipt.
They are supposed to show, so the person getting the Return Receipt can see the details, which confirm to geeks that the e-mail was indeed received by the recipient.
Thank you Bruce, for responding quickly.
I pretty much understand what you say, but I do not think it is necessary to display the full message source text with its routing and control data after the receipt message. As registrar for a classic car club association, I receive email from members who may be geeks for their cars, but are many years from being computer geeks. They are worried by the message source, they don't need or understand it, just need to know that their email reached me. Like me, they also use old systems.
When I examine a receipt from Outlook Express, or MS Mail, the message source is hidden from immediate view. That’s ideal, it is still there and can be inspected if necessary by using the ‘properties’ right click. I'd upload sample images, but that facility doesn't seem to work quickly for me at present.
These uploaded images show the different responses when a simple message asks for a receipt from an Outlook Express system, and from a Thunderbird system. So I’m asking have I missed a setting somewhere, or can Thunderbird be configured to hide the full message source leaving just the receipt message immediately viewable?
Thanks
- Roger
I've done some research and cannot find anything about changing the content of the Return Receipt that Thunderbird produces. Sorry.
Tell the recipients of your e-mails to read just the first few lines of the Return Receipt, and ignore the rest.
If you would like to request a change for this, you can do so here.
Thanks Bruce, I'll try and post a request
