I fooled with tags and marks and now all messages in inbox are un-bolded even those I have not read.

While trying to remove a "tag" ? (it looks like an eye) - apparently in the "thread column", I somehow un-bolded all the unread messages. I can not find how to re-set my inbox list so that unread messages are in bold.

Select a message and press M.

I can't see how to "select a message" in order to "press M". In the email when I hover the mouse over the icon or any part of what is next to "christ1" nothing happens. So in the email I chose "This doesn't solver my problem" which took me to this internet page. Again I see no text from christ1 and when I click on the name I just get taken to their page.

re :While trying to remove a "tag" ? (it looks like an eye) - apparently in the "thread column",

Sounds like you had this: Watch Thread

  • Marking a thread as "watched" puts a "eye" icon in the message list pane beside the first post of the thread.

So I'm wondering if you have now set it as 'Ignore Thread'?

Ignore Thread This will mark all messages in the current thread as read. (This option is only displayed when a newgroup message is selected.) The next time you view the newsgroup, the ignored thread will not appear in the message list pane and any new messages in the thread will be automatically marked as read.

To make ignored threads visible again, use the 'View' > 'Threads' menu.

Note for 'Watch thread' select email. press 'W' on keyboard, this toggles Watch on/off.

You can also use the Message menu/ Watch thread function to toggle watch on and off. So if 'Watch thread' is already select, click on it again to deselect.

Thanks Christ1 and Toad-Hall - it's not about the threads. So far I don't use threads. it's about the entire list being un-bolded - read or not. Previously the lines were in bold if not read. I fooled some more after making that happen and now I have NEW messages in bold and they unbold after i read them.

if you have inadvertently marked your mail as read... it is not read as far as Thunderbird is concerned. There is no going back.

One common cause of mail appearing read is when it is in Thunderbird as IMAP and certain phones collect mail and the server marks it as read.. Perhaps you have just set up a new phone?
