Want to recover deleted emails but Trash folder is empty.

I set about clearing my email fold of spam and unwanted emails using the Thunderbird client, however it seems some of the emails I've deleted are really important. How do I recover them? I've closed the client and my computer several times since then.

The recover deleted messages add-on linked below might help if the folder they were in has not been compacted or expunged..
