When i down load e-mail, it tells me it is down loading, but nothing is down loaded.

Yes, I can now get E-Mail. However at the top of Thunderbird I do not have Get Mail Etc., at the top.Any help with this?

That button is called "Get Messages". If it is not on your toolbar, then right-click the toolbar, choose "Customize". Then click on the button that says "Restore Default Set". See my screenshot.
