Messages duplicated over and over after upgrade

more options

Have been using a much older version of TB...... because it just worked... Well.. trying to upgrade and after upgrade, there are 10, 20, or more copies of EVERY email. This is not downloading.... just duplicates keep getting created...over and over. Have tried the install/upgrade process several times with several versions always with the same result. Then I try to empty trash, etc... and nothing happens. Please advise.

well how about you install the latest version and then we can work on the rest.

My guess is your popstate.dat file has become damaged and all the mail you have saved on the server is being downloaded again. All your thrashing is preventing the download from actually completing and it is restarting with every attempt to install something different.

When things settle down the there is an add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/remove-duplicate-messages/?src=search that should clean up.

As mentioned... This is Not downloading... No messages on server and no connection made. I have tried this as an "upgrade" and as a fresh install and then load my old profile folder (that still works perfectly in my older version) with the same results. Any time I navigate everywhere.... It shows. Copying X messages from Inbox to Inbox and does this in any folder I navigate to. every time I have used the Duplicate message add on... but as soon as I navigate back to the Inbox or any other folder.. the messages all get replicated again. I have deleted the MSF files.. deleted the popstate file (again, no downloading is actually occurring yet) Have compacted the folders.... and have repaired the index files for every folder.... with no change.... I navigate back to a folder and all messages are replicated several times over...

No thrashing here.

1. Move all the messages from the Inbox to another folder.

2. Check your Message Filters for any filter whose action it to copy the message. Perhaps one or more of them are responsible for this.

3. Read and follow the advice in the article Keep it working - Thunderbird.

Still happening... two seperate computers... one is Vista (yea.... I know) and one is Windows 7 not a filter issue...

and it is not downloading... I have tested this with the computer unplugged from the network...

I did find for the Inbox.. it happens when I click on Check for New Emails. It errors out, but EVERY email in the inbox is duplicated.

and any other folder, all I have to do is click on the folder and EVERY email in the folder is duplicated....

at wits end.
