I have the most current Firefox (54.0.1) but several websites splash that I have an outdated browser including the University library. What is the problem?

The University Library system with different databases, e.g. Proquest, passes a message saying that my browser is out of date and requires manual downloads of articles. This commercial site https://www.lenscrafters.com/lc-us/vision-guide/progressives said the same thing. Both sites seem to function with this browser version.

Using MacBook Pro 15 inch late 2016 version, MacOS 10.12.5, 16 GB RAM

Websites say that Firefox is outdated or incompatible even though it's the latest version https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/websites-say-firefox-outdated-or-incompatible
