Why is TB non-responsive for 1 min 20 sec after EVERY sent message? (gmail) win8

I've been using TB for years, but for the past 6 months or so, the program goes white (non-responsive) after sending an email.

Process to recreate problem: sending an email, any email, then it freezes for almost exactly 1 minute and 20 seconds EVERY. TIME.

It's killing my productivity and frying my nerves.

Details: Gmail IMAP account, 90 GB in data

What I've done: Archived all my messages since beginning of 2017. Compacted the INBOX in TB. Moved unnecessary email into subfolders, deleted other folders. Told my AV program (Avast) not to scan outgoing messages. Checked "place a copy in: Local Folder." Set my outgoing server to STARTTLS instead of SSL/TLS.

Another note: I just realized all my folders are labeled INBOX/... Would that essentially still mean it's in the inbox and slowing down the connection because it's not really in another folder? If so, how to save things in folders without them being in my Inbox?

zowensby,

can you give us an update please?

I unsubscribed to the All Mail folder. Spam and trash are empty. Running windows 8.1

Nothing has helped. I've been using Gmail's mediocre web client ever since. I'm giving up on tbird.

There is no way I can work efficiently when I have to wait close to a minute and a half after sending a message. I send between 20-60 messages a day on average. That's half and hour to and hour and half of waiting. Unacceptable.

You really have 90GB in one gmail account?

How many messages in Sent folder? And how long have you been using Thunderbird?

Yes, 91.93 GB to be exact. Our company uses Google Business accounts for email and we just recently upgraded to their unlimited storage plan. We host 8 websites, and most of us manage multiple email @ domains. Much of the storage is for lo res PDF proofs of client artwork, as we print 8 publications per week, plus special projects.

Been using Tbird for approx. 3 years. 10k+ messages in sent folder. Archiving and compacting again.

Compact is not likely something that will help here.

I have some suggestions, but before that, we must see what happens in safe mode. It's a quick test...

Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win8 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17076/windows-8-startup-settings-safe-mode Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Does problem go away?

- If no, then cause is either: bug in Thunderbird, in your Thunderbird profile, your mail provider. Please post into topic the contents of Help | Troubleshooting | copy text to clipboard

- If yes, then (still in Windows safe mode) ... start Thunderbird normally

-- If problem is still gone, then cause is a program loaded during windows startup. Possibilities include: antivirus SW, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates
-- If problem came back, then cause is likely a Thunderbird addon - eliminate them by disabling each one at a time in Tools | addons | extensions and restarting

- If results are unclear ... possibilities include temporary conditions such as contention from other running programs, downloads related to windows update, ...

p.s. I'm confident we can easily sort this out in a short exchange
