ff launches correctly from desktop but get blank screen if launched from email=have uninstalled and reinstalled but not fixed

something is preventing ff from opening from an email link - just get a white screen that shows new tab and bookmarks. Bookmarks don't work and typing a URL and doesn't work either. However if launching ff from the desktop it works just fine. Have refreshed and uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times. Thought perhaps a windows update might have corrupted it, so did a system restore which did not help. Any thoughts? This is a windows 7 and I use windows live mail.

I had tried that and then tried again just now but didn't help. As a side note, if ff is already open, then the links in emails will work, but clicking on an email link without having ff open gets me the nonfunctional screen. I guess I can use that work-around, but would really like to know what is going on. Thanx, fbwilliams69

This issue can possibly be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

If it works in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via one of these:

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Only have one extension - HP Smart Web Printing - which FF has disabled
