For some time now, I've been experiencing an issue with sending emails. The circumstance is, after opening T'bird and checking the mail boxes, a reply or new mail is wanted: 1. writing a new mail or response that may take some time - opening other software or even an email to check or get content (cut n paste) - before finishing. 2. press send, and I get a message box indicating an SMTP problem - retry, change the pass word etc. All of which at various times I've tried without success. When I have short mails or don't need to open close or cross check with other folders this is not an issue. 3. what I have found - by trial and error - and usually do now when this error box appears on send is save the reply or written email as a draft, and then exit t'bird. 4. restart t'bird, open the saved draft and send. Works fine - no new passwords etc needed. Which is just plain irritating.

In the conditions outlined, it looks like the composition has lost it's link with the smtp password on send and hence the error message. Otherwise, send works fine. Why? Is there a configuration issue that trips in sometimes - a timeout? I've looked but there's nothing obvious.

Using windows 7, sp1, fully patched, and T'bird 52.3.0.

do you have an anti virus product that think it is scanning outgoing mail?

No. I use AVG internet security package. The scanner looks at incoming emails. No discussion or apparent configuration of outgoing mail checks.

But beyond that, if that was the case I should be seeing issues with every outgoing mail - whilst the security system did it's thing. Not so - only when in the conditions discussed: getting details like case numbers, web addresses etc from other mails meaning switching between the write-in-progress and mailboxes, and back. And there seems to be a time element - longer time in composition the more likely it is to happen. Davidk03
