My thunderbird email shuts down when I try to click on anything, including the tool bar. I'm getting my emails through the ISP comcast.

My Thunderbird email system has "shut down". It comes up when I click the icon but when I try to click anything on the tool bar or any email it spins and shuts down, with a message on the top of windows screen that Thunderbird is not responding. Then a dialog box comes up asking if I want to stop the program or wait for it to respond, which it never does. Then a Microsoft box comes up asking if I want to have them check the problem which has never resulted in any response. My ISP provider Comcast checked out their end and says its working and I get emails by going to comcast directly. I am connected to the internet on both Internet Exporer and Firefox.

Is it possible that if I havent updated Microsoft updates recently that is the problem? Any suggestions please. I have six email business accounts on Thunderbird.
