How can I stop firefox from updating, even when I marked it not to?

Considering this horrible FF 57, I have disabled any update in options, disabled maintenance service, deleted files in FF folder which might be affecting this "update"(like maintenanceservice_installer.exe updater.exe. etc), edited channel-prefs.js file in defaults\pref folder to "no update".

Still.. Today I launched browser and guess what? I see that wacky Quantum face of "new" Firefox! It is just updated itself without warning even though I told not to do this!

And no, do not bother with ESR offers, I love how fast FF 56 works for me, and it supports ~20 my favorite addons which are doomed to die in v57.

No........ and no. Have you seen this : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-firefox-controls-buttons-and-toolbars It looks like what ever you want to look like. As well have it look like 56 Here's a more comprehensive project which affects not only tabs but brings back the old "grid-style" options menu. https://github.com/axydavid/FirefoxUI/blob/master/README.md

It isn't completely possible to use the Australis design with Firefox 57, but depending on what you want, you might be able to customize the UI to look more like the old one: This project: https://github.com/wilfredwee/photon-australis lets you have the old tab bar appearance back in Firefox 57. You can remove the space around the address bar by right-clicking on the spaces, and choosing "remove from toolbar". Note the Black Theme is just a Example and can be found in Customize. Or this https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-new-tab-page And have you looked for alternatives to you Extensions : https://mozilla.github.io/extension-finder/ Have you checked these 2 to see if your Extensions are still being worked on for 57 : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TFcEXMcKrwoIAECIVyBU0GPoSmRqZ7A0VBvqeKYVSww/edit#gid=0 and http://arewewebextensionsyet.com/#addons

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I think it is interesting that you avoided the poster's question and just started talking about how he should update.

If you look at the question at all it is clear that the real question is why the option to "never look for updates" doesn't work.

But maybe you avoided answering this on purpose.
