How does one transfer the address book from 1 computer to another???
I have a large bookmarks file on my laptop, which I need to move to my desk top

Ok I will start again. Thunderbird has an address book. Which is the subject or your question. It also has a bookmarks file which holds web site favorites the off chance that you might use the browser parts of Thunderbird. They are not the same thing!
So I will ignore your references to a bookmarks file because the chances of you actually having anything there is very small.
