I cant delete compact or move anything. Error mesage pop up is truncated

Yosemite 10.10.5 Thunderbird 52.5.2

I can't delete or move any file in inbox or sent mail I tried deleting trash and restarting Compact does nothing

There is a pop up error message that is truncated and not enough displays to be useful. Just says "failed due to error..." rest of message is missing

Now my inbox is bouncing is bound emails
