Make sure that your Firewall (which may be part of your AV product) allows the Thunderbird program.
You mention".....downloaded email programme but it will not accept my password? "
Do you mean you are trying to create a mail account? 'Menu icon' > 'New Message' > Existing Mail Account' Enter name Enter full email address Enter password - same one you use to access your webmail account Note: if you set up a '2 step verification' in webmail, then you need to get an 'application specific password' and use that instead. click on 'Continue' button
Thunderbird tries to locate settings. I presume it fails at this point.... Click on 'Manual Config' button Make sure you have selected the correct type ..pop or imap. Make sure the server settings are correct. Check the Username. Most use the full email address, but there are some that only use the section before the @ sign.
If still no joy....post an image of this window.
If you have created a mail account, but it does not work, please tell us the exact error mesage word for word and post the following info: In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information clickon 'Copy text to clipboard' button In this forum question, right click in a 'Post a Reply' text box and select 'Paste' Edit/Remove all info on fonts and printers but nothing else.
