When searching for text strings in messages in Windows Live Mail also hits in attached Word documents are included. When searching in messages in Thunderbird hits in attached documents are NOT included. Is it possible include hits in attached documents also in Thunderbird?

I doubt it, because Thunderbird doesn't know how to open and read proprietary formats such as .doc and .docx files, and it has no mechanism to enable it to hand them over to Word for searching.
