Highlight of mail automatically show it as read. WHY?

more options

When I delete one email, the highlight goes to the next one. The dark color of the next one goes away. But, I didn't want to read it yet. I would think that I would have control of what shows what I've read and not read.

I hope I'm making myself clear.

Chosen solution

You said it was highlighted in your original post. That is selected. Is it displayed in the Message Pane?

If you have the Message Pane turned on and a message gets displayed there Thunderbird considers it read. Pressing F8 toggles the message pane on and off.

Just because the curser is on it, it should not show that it has been viewed. I should have to click on it first

Yes, it is. But, I don't know why. Maybe I'm just an old guy, trying to do things in a normal way.

I did find this add-on that might help. It says it keeps the next message from being selected after deleting one. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/deselect-on-delete/?src=ss

To install go to the add-on tab and select Extensions. Enter deselect on delete in the search box. Install.
