Erratic font change is a nuisance, is there a remedy?
1) when I insert a URI the text after that URI keeps beinb blue and underlinded 2) when I use bullets, the font size in reduced automatically (I didn't ask for that) 3) when I think the font size is OK it often appears to be of giant size 4) the font size often is dependent on the font used in the message that I reply on 5) when I insert an emoticon to font type of the text thereafter changes to default
or in short: it drives me nuts and does cost me a lot of time.

Chosen solution
I'll go in order:
- After you insert the link, Format > Discontinue Link (Ctrl+Shift+K).
- Have a look at this previous support question, it has a few hints on settings that may help
- I am not sure I understand this. Can you post a separate question and include a screenshot or just more details to reproduce this problem ?
- Same as #1, yes, the font used depends on what you receive. Try going to Tools > Options > Display > Formatting > Advanced > Font Control, uncheck 'Allow messages to use other fonts'.
- As a workaround, type at least an additional space to keep your current formatting, then insert the emoticon just before the space
