I have installed and am running Thunderbird on my new laptop, and would like to use the profile from my old computer. I have followed the instructions provided, and copied the profile (renamed) into the folder on the new laptop. When I run "thunderbird.exe-p" I receive a message "cannot find Thunderbird.exe-p" and asked to try again, but without success. I would be grateful for help on this problem. With thanks Alan

You need to use the entire line below and that icludes the "

See all info here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_manager

Enter the following in the Windows Run box Note: You need to use the entire line below and that includes the " signs.

  • "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P

Note: if you have Windows 64 bit, then it use:

  • "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P

I created a shortcut icon for Thunderbird program and put it on my desktop Then I changed the Properties

  • Right click on shortcut icon and select 'Properties'
  • select 'Shortcut' tab
  • set the 'Target': "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P

Note: if you have Windows 64 bit, then Target needs to be:

  • "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -P

Click on 'OK'

There should be a space before the -p: Make sure TB is closed, then press Windows key+R and type thunderbird.exe -p Then, click OK.

Sadly does not work - nothing happens!

Given your apparent level of technical skill, install this add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/profileswitcher/ and use the menu entries it creates.

Note you will need to install the add-on in each profile to use the menu option it creates.
