Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? Error messages?

FredMcD Jun 2, 2018, 10:56:17 PM No error messages just won’t let me scroll down to the folder I want to bookmark in. I downloaded your apps for my sanmsung phone and tablet and set up to sync and they worked fine but now on my laptop I get 5 folders and when I try to scroll to the one I want it jumps back to menu….every time. I can access them fine to use them but not to save them. Never had this problem before as I have used Firefox for years [Bob McCurdy]
I called for more help.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
Yes, still there in safe mode. The only think that changed is using Firefox on phone and tablet and then syncing them. Do you think I need to uninstall them and go back to...heaven forbid...Chrome? I really do not like Chrome and was glad to get Firefox on mobile devices.
FYI, I tried resetting browser, did not help. I uninstalled and reinstalled, did not help. All I can think is that some update to bookmarks has caused this problem. I still only get 4 folder options to save a bookmark into. I really miss how it always worked before as I have lots of folders to keep organized. Thanks for all your help. PBob
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
See also:
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file
If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_process_the_backup_file_-_Firefox
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you use Sync then best is to reconnect one device at the time and wait for the initial Sync to finish before connecting another device once you have fixed places.sqlite (bookmarks).
Hi, I followed the directions but it did not solve the problem. I have not tried uninstalling Firefox from my mobile devices yet as I would have to go back to Chrome and I don't know that will solve this. Kind of wish I had never done anything and everything still worked properly. Thanks again PBob
