typed isinstagram.com instead of instagram.com and a stoopid edmunds.com truck site shoved its ugly @ss into my face.

Was that on a search site or what?
Suggest you watch your spelling or can be hit by malware.

I went to type instagram.com in the URL box of FireFox but mistyped it. The edmunds truck site came up instead. No malware here. The norm is for my default search - Google - to present what it knows about what I mistyped.
Check to see if you have enabled or disabled search from the address bar. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-web-address-bar
If you made a the whole address including the .com Firefox is going to go to the site if it is a site and google has nothing to do with it.
Again watch your spelling, mistakes happen that can end up with malware.
