I just installed a new PC with windows 10 (build 1709). I installed Thunderbird Bersion 52.8.0

I run a Accountant program and needs to send PDF files to clients from the accountant program.

I have a total of 9 other PCs doing the same thing.

On this new PC thunderbird does absolutely nothing when from the accountant program choose "send as PDF".

On the other 9 PC's thunderbird composes the email with the attachment and info from the accountantprogram with emailadress is allready filled out.

Thunderbird is set to standard email client and I can click on mail links on the Internet and thunderbird opens just fine. Just not from windows.

I have disabled all programs anti virus, firewall and so on.

On an note..It works with Outlook of course :-)

What to do to keep running Thunderbird on all PC's ?

Best regards

Claus Jensen

This is not a setting in thunderbird. Your computer does not know what to do.

Check your Firewall allows Thunderbird.

Is Thunderbird the default email client?

Is the 'MAil-TO' protocol set to use Thunderbird?

  • Control Panel > Default Programs
  • select 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program'
  • Under 'Protocols'
  • select: MAILTO line
  • click on 'Change Program'
  • Select Thunderbird.
  • click on 'Close'

If still not working..... Please check registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\Mail

  • 'Start' > Run > type: regedit

Locate this registry entry:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\Mail
  • on right side double click on 'Default'
  • Enter Mozilla Thunderbird in 'Value Data'
