How do I change the desktop icons for firefox shortcuts

I was able to edit my Firefox desktop (shortcuts) icons to a custom image. All of a sudden, after repairing my system, I no longer see the "Change Icon" on the properties of any Firefox generated shortcuts.

All I get are shortcuts with the Firefox logo, I need to change them. Anyone know how?

I have custom icons for all my important shortcuts. They always showed my images, not the Firefox image. This is critical for me.

Assuming the image file has actually uploaded, you will see all of the Firefox shortcuts. They were ALL custom images until the other day.

Did you try to change it yet?

Hi, I would assume that has to do with your system repair you did. Firefox Short Cut Icons have not been changed. You can Delete the one on the desktop and then go into C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and find Firefox.exe and create a short cut and drag it out to the desktop.

If still fails then your system is still mucked up.

You can do this MS fix to repair the registry and System Files (note it may download files from Microsoft if needed)

Use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).

Type or Copy/Paste the following command and press Enter:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Reboot after.

Yes, I tried to change them but there is NO "Change Icon" choice in shortcut properties. Always used to be..

The problem has nothing to do with the Firefox icon itself. But rather when I try to change the appearance of a URL shortcut on my desktop. There used to be a choice in a Firefox shortcut for a web site on my desktop.

See attachment. All of the Firefox icons were logo.ico for each client or vendor. (ex: usdv.ico for our page. Not anymore...

Hi, the only people here are Volunteers that answer your questions.

I have no problem of going to C:\Program Files finding firefox.exe and creating a Short Cut where WIndows 10 says You can not make one here do you want it on your Desktop. Yes. The Short Cut has abilities to change the icon.

What about your Short Cut you want to use can you not Point it at Firefox.exe ? Target = "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" Start In = "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox"

If that option is no longer there (I noticed that too) - I don't know if there's anything we can do about it. But who knows : maybe somebody else will come up with a brilliant idea.

All I could find are these search results ......

PK, the issue is NOT changing the icon for FF, but rather changing it on FF shortcuts on my desktop.

Yes I understand that. Can you put the path in the icon you want to change to ? Or make the Short Cut in the Firefox Directory and not try to work on the Desktop Short cut itself, delete that one. Make a new one in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

Also, can try changing the attributes of the firefox.exe file as maybe not enough permissions.

Thank you for trying, but that does not solve my problem. If you look at the attachment you will understand. I want ALL of the FF images to go away and replaced with a custom image for each individual shortcut. It was always like this but it seems to have changed. If I need to replace my FF with an older version to do this I don't mind. Just need to find a place to DL the older ver.

This may set off your A/V. Program is made by Nirsoft and they can do wonderful things if can get them downloaded. This may work. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/12383/change-a-file-types-icon-in-windows-7/

As for file type and when did it change ? What version where you on when it did ?

just in case something simple like a a registry error : Open a Dos Prompt as Administrator - Search, cmd.exe Right Click run as

Copy/Paste sfc /scannow and Enter. Reboot when finished ( sfc<space>/scannow )

Ran sfc. no change. Thanks for trying...

Every single URL shortcut now shows the FF logo. :(( My productivity has been cut in half because of it. If I do not find a fix soon, or if FF does not help me, they will lose a LONG time and loyal customer.

I MUST have the URL shortcuts each with their own image.

I am vision impaired and the only way I can quickly move through my work is for them to each show what that are for with a .ico image on each individually.

Had it that way for decades.

Have you thought that maybe a Windows update that has caused the issue ?

I asked what version it worked in before so I could give you the URL to it.

I said earlier that I had noticed it too, not being able to get 'Properties' => 'other icon' on my desktop shortcuts :

Well, I must have been looking with my eyes closed, cause just now I put my pointer on a desktop shortcut (I don't use a mouse, just the touchpad), pressed the 3-bar key on my keyboard and there it was ......  ! Clicked 'properties', clicked 'other icon' and could change the icon to anything I want.

Maybe you'd like to try again, just in case .......
