Updata Firefox 61.0.1 won't open pdf files. Window opens but doesn't load. Circle just keeps circling
As soon as I downloaded updata Firefox 61.0.1 I no longer can ope pdf files in the browser. The appropriate screen loads but not the content. The circle just keeps circling. I edited my Adobe Reader's internet options to increase the speed from 56Kb to 112Kb but that did not change anything.
I am windows 7

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 27.0 r0 by removing it with this tool : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html If you use it Reinstall with Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.134 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>
Give this a try : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer
Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 61.0.1 with a Full Version Installer
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

As soon as I downloaded and updated to Firefox 61.0.1, I no longer can open PDF files in the browser...
Check FF Options and make sure it's set for PDFs. (See image below for the 3 choices.)

To PJ. thank you for responding. I checked the FF Options and they had not changed from my previous default to 'Open in the browser'.
To clarify, I can still use the option to download and display from my cmpt. It is just the browser that won't load it.
To PkShadow Thank you for responding. My Flash was out of date. When I updated it I got some functionality back. Eg now I can open pdf files in a browser from https://www.gmo.com/north-america/welcome. But I still cannot open SSRN files eg https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2579123
I did all of your steps except for ,,,, after uninstalling FF I could not delete one of the remaining folders (or just files within it) without 'permission'. And I also left the folder called Mozilla Firefox.bak because that sounded like an important back up.
I remain able to open pdf files by downloading.

I still cannot open SSRN files: I remain able to open pdf files by downloading.
I was able to open a PDF on the site you referenced. What is your ISP speed? Are you on Dial-up, DSL, or Cable InterNet?

I am cable and increased my download speed for pdfs to 112Kb in an attempt to get rid of this problem. My browsing speed has never been a problem. And I have lots of 'room' on my computer so it is running well. Surely if speed were the problem I would have issues with the downloading of the files, and not with opening them in a browser.
This problem showed up with the Firefox update.

I have 60Mbps (Mega-bits per second) Cable Service. You selected 112Kb (Kilo-bits per second.) in Acrobat. That is only 1/10th of 1 Mbps speed! Is your Cable Service that slow?
The speeds in the Acrobat Reader are ancient when most people way back then were on Dial-up phone lines. I guess Acrobat should update that part.
