Can't connect to ISP (not part of email address)

I have just got a new computer and downloaded thunderbird (firefox works fine). My email address does not include the name of the ISP. Thunderbird tries to connect but it does'nt know about the ISP, which is TALKTALK, which took over Tiscali. I can't do anything on thunderbird because it spends it's time looking for Tiscali (I presume).

How to I connect?

Gets to email settings OK and I can find IMAP but not amp-POP3/ta-p/2204399
