Can I set a limit for the number of emails imported into inbox

I have just joined Thunderbird and in setting it up, I cannot find where I can set the limit on the number of emails imported from the server every day. At the moment, it is importing everything up to a week old. Too many!

Why would it be doing that everyday? That should be a one off to set up the local database/index.

What mail provider is this?

Thanks for that. I now see that it only happened for the first two days of operation. Today, I have received only today's emails. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.
