Printer preferences don't work independently

Ok so where I work I have an Epson brand receipt printer and a brother all in one laser printer but the problem is when I switch the printer the settings stay the same for things like paper size ect I don't remember this being a problem until around nov.27 I've been trying to figure it out ever since someone please help me
