Hello, I have a new install of Firefox 65 on Xubuntu 18.04. Very frustratingly, I cannot select any text in the address bar, for instance to type a new web address. This applies to both:

-- trying to click or double-click; nothing happens; --also, dragging the mouse to select text has no effect.

I CAN place the mouse at the end of the text, backspace and erase text, and retype a new address, but this is laborious.

I have tried restarting in safe mode: the problem still exists in safe mode.

I tried installing a different browser to see if that one would have the same problems: it did not.

Any ideas? This is clearly not normal behavior and makes firefox very difficult to use. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Fred, this Firefox came packaged with Xubuntu 18.04.

I have made the problem disappear, though I am not quite sure what was causing it. My guess is this: Xubuntu apparently uses GTK3 for the appearance of windows, and I was using a GTK2 theme which was causing problems in both Firefox and Thunderbird. I found a new gtk3 theme I like and switched to that, and the problems with the address bar have disappeared, at the same time as other issues which were affecting the scrollbars.

I just found out that the same problem exists in search fields as well, for instance when I do a search in Google or other search engines, after the search the text is difficult to edit in the same way as the address bar.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Hi Fred, thank you for your answer. Yes, in Safe Mode the problem persists.

Did you get your Firefox from Mozilla.org or somewhere else?
