Inbox is showing all emails, I want those that have been moved to other folders to not be shown.

I bought a new computer. When I went to set up my email acct (it is a gmail acct), it showed all my folders and the email in them, but the inbox also showed all the emails. I'd like to be able to clean up the inbox and only show emails that I haven't moved to other folders. Instead it shows every email, even after I 'move' them to a different folder.

Is the gmail account pop or imap?

re : even after I 'move' them to a different folder. But where are you moving them? Is the 'different folder' another folder in the same gmail account? If in same gmail mail account and account is imap: is that 'different folder' a subscribed folder?
