Needed to check my calendar, opened TB, told it was updated.

OK...

Calendar is gone? I searched and found this:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird

Have followed all instructions on that page, still gone.

Lightning IS installed, but "Calendar" and "Tasks" are grayed out and cannot be selected under View.

Here's the basic overview info:

Chosen solution

re :Lightning IS installed, but "Calendar" and "Tasks" are grayed out and cannot be selected under View.

Same with me. 'Menu icon > View has greyed out Calendar and Tasks.

However, there are several ways to open 'Calendar' and 'Tasks'.

use the 'Menu Bar': select 'Events and Tasks' The drop still offers access to everything.

Cannot see 'Menu Bar' : File, Edit, View, etc ? Enable: Menu icon > hover over 'Options and select 'Menu Bar'.

There should also be 'Calendar' and 'Tasks' icons to the right of the open tabs. click on those icons to open in a tab.

Oh holy pants - right in front of me, but I automatically went to 'View', and it seemed the correct place because it was there, but grayed out so I didn't look elsewhere.

Hehe. I'm not sure if that makes me stupid or if it's a stupid design, but thanks for the help!

OK I gave it some thought and that's a (really) stupid design!

Not everyone has the 'Menu Bar' toolbar enabled as it saves them space - visible real estate, but some people only use it because space is not an issue and it is a more conventional method. So,it was necessary to keep access via the Menu Bar as well as the Menu icon.

I think there has been some updating recently because 'Events & Tasks' previously only on the 'Menu Bar' has now been added to the Menu icon, so this is where the Calendar and Tasks options have been moved to.

It would seem they have not as yet completely removed them from 'View' but have left them greyed out. No doubt they will get this sorted.

Every time this happens to me (3) I have to come here to read the explanation. I wish they would fix this.
