what is the difference between support account and sync account and why do they have to be different?

more options

I could not access support until I made a new account, seedennisgo. different from sync account Why wasn't my syncing account which is on all four windows 10 computers used when I wanted to post to support?

It just would not work at all, but it is syncing just fine across all computers, and works GREAT.

But when trying to post here, it kept asking for my support account? I thought this was the same as my sync account but it would not work. It would not even send a link to that address.

So I created one, in support, and it works in support only I suppose, but why did I have to do this new account?

sync account: decnexus7hd at gmail support account email: seedennisgo at verizon profile: seedennisgo password: not shown

thanks to jscher2000 I found I have only one profile and it is called dennis.default

this is true on all four windows 10 pro and home computers.

does that mean that dennis should be my profile name for support pages and if so do I need to remove the just created seedennisgo or just stay the same and not use dennis.... this is all way too much trouble. 67.0 is a non-starter still. I will also change the security.ssl.enable.oscp.stapling to true as suggested by jscher2000

Support is on a much, much older platform than the Firefox Account system. Someday, this login probably will be replaced or supplemented by the Firefox Account, but I don't envision that happening any time soon.

Firefox profile names (at the folder level) are partially randomized to reduce guessability, so it is normal that they are different in every Firefox installation, and Sync doesn't require them to be the same.

Your support account display name is just a screen name; it doesn't need to have any relation to your Firefox profiles or your account usernames or your real name.

I marked as solved. Thank you for your support.

I don't quite get the part about randomizing profile names though. ALL of my windows 10 computers have the same exact profile name, dennis, as the only account on them other than Public which has to be there. Actually I do not use dennis for anything, I only use Public, dennis just sits there and some apps use it but I never ever even look there. I refuse always to have a microsoft outlook account as those were requesting phone calls more than three times a day; leave me alone microsoft. So I had to fully reset all my win 10 computers (you cannot remove an account there is always junk behind, so you have to start completely over. I always refuse to make a microsoft account, and use only a google account. I cannot post some things to microsoft support and cannot use microsoft's store without a microsoft outlook account but from what I saw there is absolutely nothing there of any value anyway. So there is no loss there. less is more. I just don't get this random account idea. and I don't see any evidence of it on my computers. dennis and public and that is all.

At the folder level.

When you open the about:profiles page in Firefox, look at the last part of the Root Directory path for a profile. It has a random part, then a dot, then the human readable part that matches the large text above that table. For example:

Profile: default

Root Directory: C:\Users\Windows-username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\wq4p971b.default

Actually uh if Madalina and others go through with it, the Support.Mozilla.org (SUMO) accounts will be switching to Firefox Accounts in next months.

https://blog.mozilla.org/sumo/2019/05/10/sumo-firefox-accounts-integration/

This bugs me because I do not have a Firefox Account for anything and do not really want to be making yet another account hassle.

Thanks, James, either I missed that, or I suppressed the memory.

I see that profile page, but there is no random part, that page has:

This page helps you to manage your profiles. Each profile is a separate world which contains separate history, bookmarks, settings and add-ons. Profile: dennis.default This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. Default Profile yes Root Directory C:\Users\Dennis\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\dennis.default Local Directory C:\Users\Dennis\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\dennis.default

as you can see both the root and local are exactly the same dennis.default

I would guess this doesn't matter though. Thanks

Hmm, I guess you must have selected those names? Or the universe has a sense of humor.
