I just purchased a new computer. I am trying to restore my browser bookmarks. I followed the steps to create bookmark folders. I clicked on the bookmarks icon, scrolled down to the "show all bookmarks" link thus opening the "Library" window. I then created the folders I wanted under "Bookmarks Menu" but they do not appear in the bookmarks listing.

Where are you right-clicking?

It sounds that you right-click in the folder area that shows some selected folder (root folders and some last used folders). You can right-click in the folder area and you can't right-click in the tree list that opens if you click the second arrow, but the tree area has a button to create a new folder.

Hi rrobison,

If you use Sync to sync bookmarks, temporarily disconnect Sync during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

Go to Menu -> Help -> Troubleshooting Information (about:support) page click on the Verify Integrity button.

If errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry.

I uninstalled Firefox, reinstalled it & ran Sync. Same problem. As far as the "places.sqlite & favicons.sqlite" files, I am still trying to find the Firefox profile folder. Same with the Menu-> Help-> Troubleshooting Information page: still looking.

The Verify Integrity button will check for problems with the files for you.

Click the 3-bar Menu button on your toolbar select Help select Troubleshooting Information

or, type (or paste) about:support in the address bar and press Enter

On the Troubleshooting Information page scroll down to Places Database (it's about 3/4 of the way down) under that you will see the Verify Integrity button

Thank you for your help.

Followed your instructions but it had no effect. The problem still exists.

Don't know if it makes a difference but when I installed Firefox on my new laptop I did not run Sync. Apparently Sync runs automatically on its own.

As I said before I uninstalled Firefox & reinstalled it to no effect. Don't know what more I can do.

Let's try this: Open the Bookmarks Library near the top, click on Import & Backup click on Restore there should be a list of backups to the right select the one at the top On the window that says It Will Replace... click OK

All of your synced bookmarks should Restore.

Quote: but they do not appear in the bookmarks listing.

What bookmarks listing are you referring to ?

Took your suggestion: Same result. Maybe about half of my original bookmarks are there, all jumbled up. No folders, however, so it is chaos.

Additionally, I see no way in the current version of Firefox in which to create Folders. How do you create folders. There is no such option when you right-click in bookmarks. ???

After clicking on the "{star} bookmarks" I get a list of SOME of my bookmarks. I tried to create a folder by right clicking. I do not get an option to do this.

In the version on my old laptop I can right-click anywhere in the bookmark listing and a menu pops up with an option to create a "New Folder". I do not get that option with this version. .. If I click on the show sidebars icon I get a pop-up of my bookmarks with FOLDERS on the left of the screen. These folders do not appear when I click on the "{star} bookmarks" icon.

Until you get used to this newer version, maybe a better place to work with your Bookmarks would be the Bookmarks Library.

Click on the "star in a tray" icon on your toolbar. At the bottom of the drop-down click where it says Show All Bookmarks or, use Ctrl+Shift+B

Thank you!!
