I enjoy playing games on 247games.com. Specifically the backgammon.

For the past year, I have had to NOT update Firefox, as the games won't work with the latest. I've just decided to update again, now have version 72.0.2 and still the backgammon won't work.

Last year when I did this, one of the volunteers worked with me for 3 days trying all sorts of things, with no success, so he finally advised me to undo the update. Now I wish I had left it alone, but an hour ago I updated. Now I have to figure out how to undo the update. Again. So disappointed.

I am on an HP envy laptop, with touch screen. Neither the touch screen nor the cursor will work for backgammon. I was hoping you folks had fixed this problem by now.

Chosen solution

No problems here with this game with the Firefox 72.0.2 release on a desktop computer with a mouse.

I tried it with Responsive Design Mode (Tools -> Web Developer) and it works with mouse, but doesn't work for me with Touch Simulation support enabled.

Well that is bizarre! I am so surprised! And I do not know enough about technical things to even begin to understand.

I don't understand the Web Developer bit at all.

Two comments.

1. I should be able to just navigate to the page and play. That is what I do with older versions of Firefox. I shouldn't have to navigate to the game and change to this RDM.

2. First photo attached is a screenshot when I navigate to the game page. There are buttons, but nothing happens when I click on PLAY or any other button. Second photo attached is a screenshot after I go to TOOLS - WEB DEVELOPER - RDM. The game does not work in RDM, there are no slides to move around on the tiny page to even find the "play" button.

Cor-el, if you are still around . . . could you please give me step by step how to get out of the current Firefox and get back to the older version, and remind me also how to stop the auto update? I just want to go back to how it was a few hours ago. And I can't figure out how to get there.

Thank you.

If it worked before with a Firefox 72.0 or 72.0.1 version then it should work with the current 72.0.2 release as well.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can remove all data stored in Firefox for a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox for this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data for that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data for that website will be saved once again.

Backgammon stopped working after Version 65. So it has been over a year.

I got help from someone, removed the latest broken version, now using Version 65 again. And everything works.

Sure hope Firefox gets fixed sometime in the future. Because over time, for privacy / security reasons, I'll just have to switch to another browser if they can't figure it out and fix it.

Thanks for your comments.

You can install a portable (ESR) Firefox version to access websites that do not work with the current Firefox release. The portable version comes with its own profile folder and doesn't interfere with currently installed Firefox versions.
