1st, what exactly, by default, is put into the Trash folder? 2nd, What do I do to get the Trashcan (with settings and Icon) back, if it is removed somehow? 3rd, can I direct my Spam, Junk and Deleted to the Trash Can, without using message filters?

I lost my Trash Icon, under one of my Email Accounts, and I created a Trash Folder but it is not what useful. Can someone explain where and/or how to restore the original Trash Can under any account? Thank you... Robert

I am assuming your account is using the IMAP protocol. Go into account setting then in server setting set the option to place deleted messages in to the trash folder. Once that is set the folder will have the special attribute that causes Thunderbird to treat it as a trash folder and show the trash icon.

Thank you Matt Your solution is just exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for your time and effort to help with this issue. And yes all my accounts are now IMAP. Is there anything I have to do to mark this question 'Solved'? Robert

I also have this problem, but the "move to" folder options are only inbox or sent. I was forced by AOL changes to delete and reinstall the account and am now trying to get everything back as before. I have lost all trash and deletes simply disappear. Alan.
