when sending new mail or when replying to an email this address is automatically saved in the address book.I don't want this. the system saves all addresses and later I have to get rid of them... can I modify this?

Chosen solution

As you have observed, Thunderbird stores email addresses of emails you sent that are not in an address book. They are usually stored in the 'Collected Addresses' address book.

This is set up here:

  • Menu app icon > Options > Composition > 'Addressing'
  • Automatically add outgoing email addresses to my: select an address book - by default it set to 'Collected addresses'
  • uncheck that checkbox option to stop collecting outgoing email addresses that you have not put into another address book.
