So I do a Quickfilter search for an e-mail in a mail folder. That folder is quite large. It may take minutes to go through the whole folder. While it is searching, Thunderbird is dead to the world. Big wheel turning on my message pane. I suddenly see displayed the e-mail I'm looking for, and I want it to STOP SEARCHING!!!! How do I get it to stop? The only way I can see how to do that is to kill Thunderbird, wherein my search is trashed.

There must be some gentler way to get it to stop searching.

Well, that was easy. You just hit the circled X at the right hand side of the Quick Filter search box. I had though that would just reset everything but no, it just stops the search.
