For the past week, my email folders have stopped displaying their contents. I have tried the repair function but the repair does not last. Should I delete and re-install the programme?

Dear Matt, How kind of you to make this suggestion, which I did try but unsuccessfully. What was eventually discovered was that I must have unconsciously disturbed the setting of the "Quick Filter" on Thunderbird's top menu bar, and knocked it on! All it needed was to be turned off again. I hope this advice will help others in the future. Michael

Probably not and reinstalling only generally fixes integration issues.

The repair function simply reindexes the mail in the folder, or in the case of an IMAP account redownloads it. Why your indexes might be having issue is probably a more constructive approach. A very common cause if anti virus programs that are scanning the contents of the Thunderbird profile folder while they are in use. Try placing an exception in the anti virus product for the Thunderbird profile folder.
