Change in the Bookmarks Library keyboard shortcut

With the recent release of Firefox 84.0, I noticed that the shortcut for the Bookmarks Library was changed from Ctrl+Shift+B to Ctrl+Shift+O. I use bookmarks extensively, but most of that is centered around the Library pane. I rarely, if ever, use the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Is there an option to go back to the old shortcut?

Hi, sorry to say that there is no about:config or other way to change it back. Apparently it was done to make it the same as Chrome!! https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1328637

It isn't currently possible to submit feedback to Mozilla due to the site being reworked, but in my experience it's highly unlikely that it would be reverted anyway.

Hi, Thank you for the reply.

I can understand bringing in a feature from Chrome, but breaking an existing shortcut seems to be a bad way of going about that.

Could you please tell me how I can get this to someone who could do something about it? You've mentioned that the Mozilla site is being reworked; is that the only proper channel for something like this?

Changing the shortcut for the Bookmarks manager is only an issue on Windows and Mac. Linux already had the "Ctrl+Shift+O" shortcut for the Library and that is now used on all platforms.

A keyboard shortcut was needed to toggle the Bookmarks Toolbar and a browser like Google Chrome already has this feature and is using "Ctrl+Shift+B" and that shortcut was the first choice, but that required a new shortcut for Firefox on Windows and Mac. Linux already had the "Ctrl+Shift+O" shortcut for the Library and that is now used on all platforms. For the history there is no dedicated toolbar, so there won't be any reason to change the shortcut to access the History Manager.

Hi cor-el,

Thank you for your reply. I now understand the reasons behind the change, but I am still not convinced that this was the right approach. You have mentioned that the change was required on two of three platforms (Windows & Mac). The change may have made Firefox more consistent across the three platforms, but it has still broken an existing shortcut (on apparently two of the three platforms?) to get there.

From a more personal perspective, I've used the Ctrl+Shift+B shortcut for so long that it's become muscle memory. This change is very jarring to me, like a text editor suddenly deciding to switch to Ctrl+W for save instead of the conventional Ctrl+S.

As I've asked previously, is there a way to bring this to the attention of someone who can do something about it? I see this as a change in existing behaviour; surely that's worth taking another look at?

Thank you.
