Thunderbird handles the images in a HTML-format email baddly.

When someone send me a html-format email which usually includes some images like background picture or signature picture, etc, the thundbird can not show them in the email body in html. In contrary, it handles them as attachments with a strange file name like "D38CF7A7@FB9CB071.ADF80B60".

Since the extension file name can not be recognized by the OS, the file can not be open by default image software.

Here is an example of the email source (some content has been cut off), as well as the screen snap.

I do not know where you get your mail from, but perhaps they need to upgrade their mail software so it sends legible mail. You posted the following information. name="=?GB2312?B?MjAyMMTqtsi8qNCnv7y6y7HtLdTwyM7K6cjL1LEtwfXTwMe/Lnhsc3g=?=" While there is some sort of escaping of what is probably a double byte language, the file name is specified by the sender. If it is garbage there is little the receiving application can do but honor the name supplied.

Content-Disposition: attachment; Clearly This is an attachment. The statement is clear in and of itself .

Content-Type: application/octet-stream; This is the default for binary files. As it means unknown binary file, applications usually don't execute it, or even ask if it should be executed. They treat it as if the Content-Disposition header was set to attachment, and propose a "Save As" dialog. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Basics_of_HTTP/MIME_types

I see nothing in the detail of what you posted that looks like an image. Mime types image/jpeg, image/png, image/gif are probably the most common. But there is no Content-Type: image/ part in that message at all.

If I had to guess I would guess foxmail (identified in the header as the sending application.) is not up to standards compliance because they simply do not implement themedia types part of the relevant standard correctly. This is often the case where developers who are only familiar with the windows file extension method of associating data or a file type with a helper application are employed.
