I need to see an old email that was in my Trash older several weeks ago. I found my system backups from right after the date I need, and I found the Trash and Trash.msf files the Thunderbird profile files. I renamed these files OldTrash and put them into the profile folder on my active system. How do I get Thunderbird to open the OldTrash file and show me the emails that are in it?

Chosen solution

Copy OldTrash, the mbox file (omit the .msf file) into Mail/Local Folders of the profile folder, with TB closed. Help/Troubleshooting, Profile Folder, Open Folder, to open the profile. Restart TB and find OldTrash under Local Folders in the Folder Pane.
