Hello I just formated my laptop.I installed mozilla and logged into my account to sync everything.I was waiting half an hour just to realize at the end that nothing was synced and nothing can't be synced anymore, like i lost everything passwords bookmarks etc. I'm pretty sure that was my account on mozilla and i activated sync before i format.. what can be done?

yours sincerely

Hi

Thank you for your question about the Firefox Sync service.

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article.

If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data.

In FireFox, try doing an "import" from the MSEdge browser.

As i said from start i formatted my laptop so i can't import anything that doesn't exist.. That was so unexpected and disappointing of Firefox.. After so many years of using it it abandoned me by a misleading word

PLEASE CLARIFY WHAT YOU CAN AND CAN'T DO,i lost so many important work passwords and bookmarks and change the name of "sync" since it's doesn't do what the word means

thanks

i see. i missed the word "format"

however, if you had previously sync'd your data to FF account, it should download it all back.

try a last ditch effort by creating a new profile and then logging into your FF account and invoking sync.

go to url and click on "create button"

about:profiles

there is a spinning wheel as the syncing is being done, which takes like 5 minutes for me and my machine.

i havent used a recovey app in years. So i am a bit off with the options the apps provide you with.

however, if you do use such an app, then let it scan your disk. and with any hope, you will find old files that are categorized as Mozilla, where the FF files are stored.

further, the mozilla folders are usually located under your windows user profile but cant recite the exact names of the directories at this time. but If you execute a regular windows search of your disk for "mozilla", you will see the file structures that mozilla uses.

so at this time, if you are able to recover the former mozilla files, then let us know. if you are able to restore/revoer the old files, you may need to rename Mozilla to Mozilla1, to keep the old files from overwriting the new ones.

i hope the above will help.
