I have Tbird 78.13.0. For some time now I've been seeing popstate files show up in the Folders panel. (POP3 email). I don't think they've been there always; at least not until several months ago -- not 100% sure of that. I've deleted them and then they start accumulating again later. What are they and can I keep them from coming back?

Mozillazine article "popstate.dat" explains what they are. They may be caused by a virus scan locking the popstate files and forcing Thunderbird to create new ones. Previous questions about this exist here that may shed some light. Usual advice is to exclude Thunderbird Profile folder from system virus scans (but leave the virus background scanner alone to catch new incoming threats). Hope that helps!
