Ctrl-W does not work

I tend to use the following workflow. 1. hit ctrl-t for a new tab and start typing search query into address bar 2. realize i do not need it 3. hit ctrl-w to close the tab

This workflow works great on my old install, on a new laptop this workflow fails to work, ctrl-w now just clears the address bar instead of closing the tab. These are both fedora 35, firefox 95 and it is a profile independent behavior on these installs. Anyone knows what's going on here and how to make new installs actually close the tab on ctrl-w even when address bar is focused?

Ctrl+W still works the same on Windows.

I don't have hands-on experience with Linux, so I don't know whether this is a change for all Firefox users on Linux or might be specific to your distro's build of Firefox.
