How to block images loading but retain the IMG tag containing path in SRC attribute?

more options

I know setting 'permissions.default.image' with a value of '2' will block the downloading of images. However, this also removes the IMG tag from the page source. Is there a way to retain this, because I want access to the image path in the SRC attribute; for development testing purposes via Selenium.

Thanks.

When I test it interactively, a placeholder is displayed in the page and the <img> is still listed in the Page Inspector. What call are you using to retrieve it in Selenium?
