Hi, I have always used Firefox as my browser and has all my work tabs in the appropriate bookmark folders (several hundred links and software)

My colleagues have said that win 11 is quite good, so, I downloaded win 11 only to find out that when I downloaded Firefox to use as my browser, all my files, documnets EVERYTHING has gone from Firefox Bookmarks. I am devistated and feeling very sick.

Please tell me there is a way to recover all my Bookmarks etc, even if I have to get rid of win 11.

Not a very nice way to start 2022.

Thank you

Regards M M

Hi Makzy, sorry to hear about this problem. Did the Windows 11 installer mention preserving your data during the install? For example, Windows 10 could create a temporary folder named

C:\Windows.old

Can you find such a folder on your system?

If so:

Before proceeding, please set Windows to show you hidden files and folders: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files

Then check here:

  • C:\Windows.old\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

If you find recent data there, please pause and we can suggest how to resurrect your saved files.

Note that "AppData" (Mac: ~/Library; Linux: ~/.mozilla) is a hidden folder.
