Don't want automatic email download
Setting Thunderbird up on a new computer. I want my emails to download when I ask for them, not before, but I can't find a setting to say 'Do not download automatically'. Where is the setting to say, 'Don't download email until I ask for it'? Thanks !
Chosen solution
Hm. It did not collect my mail overnight, it waited for me to ask for it. So I'll say, problem solved. I'll be back if it changes. Thanks for your help.

I presume your account is POP. Look under accountsettings>serversettings. There are two 'check for new messages' tickboxes. Untick both of them.
They are already unticked.
Is this an IMAP account?
No, it is POP. There are 2 accounts. One could be IMAP.
I was wondering if I should just check the box, check for mail on startup, close TB, open it and uncheck that box.

Just a followup: if one is IMAP, you can control it by using File>Offline>work offline. I'm pleased that all may be okay.
Thanks, so far, so good. :-)
