ThunderBird stopped being able to pick up email from our pop3 server.

The Error console shows:

mailnews.pop3.1: SecurityError: a SecurityCertificate error occurred Pop3Client.jsm:336:18

_onError resource:///modules/Pop3Client.jsm:336

This doesn't give me a hint as to the problem is with the security certificate. It hasn't changed recently and worked yesterday.

The cert is self-signed and expires in a few days. Previously (not recently) I had to do a variety of things to make Thunderbird happy with it.

I managed to fix this problem by deleting the certificate in Thunderbird and refetching it. I took the opportunity to regenerate the certificate with a later expiry date.

Settings: Privacy and Security: Certificates: Manage Certificates.
