You can remove it using the customize panel. See Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

See also Add the Search bar to your Firefox toolbar.

There is nothing in the customize that says get rid of sidebar! I tried restore defaults. I do not want a side bar ever!

I have 2 issues and guess I will give up on Firefox and use Windows because this is taking up half my screen and LOT of time! Nothing you suggested works. I have an extra search bar of top but that can wait, I need the side bar to go away and nothing fixes this issue.

Toggle the Sidebar on and off Simply click the Sidebar button, then click on the option that you'd like to load. To turn off the Sidebar, click on the Sidebar button again, and then click to uncheck the option that you'd like to turn off.

This link comes from: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-firefox-sidebar-access-bookmarks-history-synced Newbie...learn to search for answers. I simply typed in "" side bar firefox" ...to obtain the answer. I am not being critical, finding the right place and the right answer for you, is a matter of the right thought at the right time. This is a skill which you will acquire over time IS your OS Linux or windows ?

I finally got rid of it but the close side bar icon was in the upper top upper left hand corner not where I was being told to find it. I did not install the side bar it just appeared and has taken up a great deal of my time to get rid of it. I wish Firefox would leave well enough alone. I may not use the right wording in my search question but I did do a lot of searches.
