Connection not working

more options

Since I updated firefox, something has been wrong. Twice now it's like the browser has just stopped working. When I use google, and I change the search. The page html keeps changing back and forth between the two pages.

What's worse, is that the connection stops working. I can't get any of the pages to load. I thought it was the WIFI connection but then I started using Microsoft Edge and it's fine. It's not the WIIF. It's the FIREFOX MOZILLA browser that is not letting me load the pages. Which is annoying as hell because I use YouTube a lot and the videos won't play. Or stop loading in the middle. There has to be something that can be done about this.

Hi Helene, did this problem start with today's update, or last week's, or earlier this month?

Just in case today's update helps, see: Update Firefox to the latest release

Some other general suggestions:

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

The web cache accumulate files that can become out-of-sync with websites. See: How to clear the Firefox cache (only select Cached web content, don't clear all cookies and site data)

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

After clearing cache, when you visit sites, everything should load fresh. Any difference?

(2) Test in Firefox's Troubleshoot Mode

In this mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is running:

You can restart Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Any notable difference?
