Why does Firefox turn my computer off?

more options

I am running Ubuntu 10. This has happened with Linux Mint 8 also only not as frequently. Could be related to Java, seems to be when I visit Java or Flash sites or possibly sites that use either for advertising since sometimes it's random.

This happened

A few times a week

Has done it for months, increasing in frequency.

User Agent

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.99 Safari/533.4

Firefox seems to bring out weaknesses in RAM modules sooner than most other programs do. You can get a bootable ISO image RAM test program from these websites. http://www.memtest86.com/ or http://www.memtest.org/

I want to add some information to it, I'll give the memtest a shot. I realized the problem was occurring more often when I would leave Firefox open and let the computer hibernate. When I'd come back and try to browse then it would turn the system off and when I'd close Firefox and reopen it immediately it would nearly always cause the shutdown too.
